Hello! Welcome to Tickle Your Senses! We are the Sensory Specialists. We are composed of just two mothers who are educators at heart. Our aim is to help your child have fun learning with the best tools that they have – their senses!
The Sensory Specialists
Chiao Chyi, a stay home mother of three and a former secondary school teacher, is passionate about making learning fun for children. She started making playdough for her young children because she was not impressed with the commercial ones available. After experimenting with countless playdough recipes available, she finally found the perfect one and is happy to share this handmade goodness with other children.
Felicia has been creating sensory play experiences for her child since the latter was 1 year old. She started with the humble production of colored rice, cloud dough, and moved on to water beads and sand. Felicia was reluctant to start her child on play dough because of the artificial smell and colours of commercial dough until her child fell in love with the soft, pliable and fragrance-free play dough that Chiao Chyi made for her. Since then, Felicia’s child has had the luxury of having tubs of freshly made dough to play with all the time.
Our Sensory Play Kits
Felicia and Chiao Chyi have spent days and nights discussing and ruminating about how to create the perfect toolkits for children to enjoy learning through play. After months of brainwork and heartwork, these parent-approved and child-endorsed Sensory Play toolkits are now ready to be enjoyed by more parents and children.
Our children are our toy kit testers. Before we sell anything, we put them through the test of our children’s hands and play. They tell us what they like or don’t like about the kits so that we can refine them and improve on them. Hence, our guarantee is that we only sell products that are good enough even for our own children. If its not good enough for our own children, we won’t sell them to you!
With our Playdough kits, we do all the work for you! We have unique and sturdy cutters to pair with our handmade playdough. We omit harmful smells and substances because it is made with love with food ingredients. Pick a theme (jungle, fruit, alphabet, princess) that would interest your child at his/her developmental stage. When you receive our sensory kit, it is ready for play immediately!
Our Water Beads kits are ideal for bath time! Water Play is always a hit with young children. Pour the ready-soaked beads in a tub and fill the tub with water and you are ready to go. We have picked super fun squirties, sturdy and colourful scoops and strainers to help your child develop their motor skills as they squeeze, scoop, pour and dip. Even adults love the therapeutic effect of our glistening and soft water beads. Give it a try and you will know what we mean! This has been used in spas as well for therapy.
Our Colored Rice kits are ideal for loads of scooping and pouring fun. Colored rice might seem like a simple idea, but trust us, give it a shot and you’ll know how much fun it can be! Children will enjoy the sinking their hands into the lovely texture of the rice bins, they will enjoy running through their fingers the rice, and listening to the sound of rice falling through funnels. Younger children can learn how to scoop and pour with the sturdy ice cream scoops and bowls that we provide, pour them into funnels, or search and hunt for items in the rice. Older children us the rice bins to create small world play of desserts, jungles or the sea and do pretend play with any figurines and accessories you can find in the house.
It’s perfectly fine for children to squish, stamp, roll, scoop and pour, because that’s what playing is all about.
Some mess created after play is inevitable. Modern day children live in such sanitised conditions that they often don’t get the opportunity to fully engage their senses. Give sensory play a chance to open the eyes of your child to new experiences. Cleaning up is not all that impossible.
As Fred Rogers, an educator and actvitist puts it ‘Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is the real world of childhood’
Come, join us in allowing our children to explore the world of sensory play, the real world of childhood.
